Document Size Guide — Photo & Signature Limits
Every Indian competitive exam and government form requires photos and signatures in specific file sizes, formats, and dimensions. This guide covers the rules for all major document types and links directly to tools that resize them instantly.
Photo Upload Guidelines
A recent, passport-style photograph with a plain white or light-colored background, taken within the last 6 months. The face must be clearly visible, well-lit, and occupy approximately 70-80% of the frame.
Rules
- Use a recent photograph taken within the last 6 months.
- Ensure a plain white or light-colored background without shadows.
- The face should be directly facing the camera with both ears visible.
- Avoid wearing sunglasses, hats, or any head covering (unless for religious reasons).
- The image must be in JPG/JPEG format with a clear, sharp focus.
Common Mistakes
- Using a selfie with visible arm or distorted proportions.
- Using a photo with a cluttered or dark background that doesn't compress well.
- Re-using an old photograph from a previous exam cycle.
- Cropping the face too tightly, cutting off the top of the head or chin.
- Uploading a screenshot of a photo instead of the original file.

Signature Upload Guidelines
A scanned or photographed image of the applicant's handwritten signature, signed with a black or dark blue ink pen on plain white unlined paper. The signature must match the one on official ID documents.
Rules
- Sign with a black or dark blue ink pen on plain white unlined paper.
- Ensure the signature is consistent with your official ID documents.
- Crop tightly around the signature, removing excess white space.
- Scan or photograph in good lighting to ensure high contrast.
- Save in JPG format — PNG files are rejected by most portals.
Common Mistakes
- Signing on lined or ruled paper, which adds noise and increases file size.
- Using a light-colored pen that doesn't create enough contrast for compression.
- Scanning at unnecessarily high DPI (300+ DPI), creating files far above the limit.
- Using a digital/typed signature instead of a handwritten one.
- The scanned signature not matching the one on Aadhaar or PAN card.
